Tying the Knot in Lapland – Amazing Winter Wedding Destinations

What could be a more memorable experience than getting married in Lapland? Forget the palm fringed beach and the sand in your wedding shoes; by choosing the Arctic Circle as your wedding venue you can really have a fairytale ceremony amidst pine forests and deep snow.

Lapland weddings are civil ceremonies, but a Lutheran priest can provide a blessing after the civil ceremony. Lapland is a reasonably simple country in which to arrange a wedding, but you will need quite a lot of documentation, so when planning a wedding such as this it is advisable to book a package with an experienced holiday company who will guide you through the legalities and the paperwork.

If you and your partner are winter sports enthusiasts there are some great ski locations for a wedding; the resort of Levi (170 km inside the Arctic Circle) is a totally unspoilt wilderness and a popular choice for weddings, as is Pyha, which is situated in Finland’s largest nature park. Skiing conditions are best from November to April.

You can tie the knot on a reindeer farm, or in an ice palace, and you will have some pretty unique photographs to show your children. Nearly all the winter wedding packages will include a sleigh ride and a night in a log cabin or an ice hotel.

Nothing could be more impressive than making your marriage vows with the Northern Lights as a backdrop, and some companies offer this from late August to late April.

Whatever you choose, Lapland will provide you with an unforgettable winter wonderland wedding.
